Eco-Club Minutes 2014-15

July 7th 2015

 

In attendance:  Isaac, Amir, Ellen, Immy, Mr Walsh, Mr Morgan.

 

- 'CANTON GROWS WILD'

We took a stroll down to a patch of grass in Canton which has been transformed by a group of volunteers.

 

The group are called 'Canton Grows Wild' and they meet every Saturday morning around 10am.

 

We had a great time learning about how to grow our own foods and we also helped to plant some too!

 

Check out the pictures on our main page and if you want to get involved on a Saturday morning, ask the Eco Club and they will point you in the right direction!

 

June 29th 2015

 

In attendance: Freya, Ruby, Isaac, Amir, Ellen, Mr Walsh, Mr Morgan.

 

- Eco Review

 

We continued to look into how we can put our actions from the eco review into a plan.

 

We completed our posters to promote saving of energy around school as this was one of our actions.

 

We also created a list of what to put into bins and what not to put into bins...these will be placed around the school to educate children.

 

Flowers

We watered the flowers in the outdoor area and have also been lucky enough to recieve some tomato plants from Victor, we will look after these and hopefully reap the rewards...!

Two children from Eco Club to represent the school with Mr Walsh next Thursday at the Really Rubbish Awards - tbc.

 

Mr Walsh also explained that next week for our last Eco meeting, we are going to be joining a local community garden group to help them further their gardening - we can't wait!

 

It looks promising that Eco club will be a normal club rather than a elected club next year. Watch this space...!

 

 

June 22nd 2015

- Eco Review

 

We began looking into how we can put our actions from the eco review into a plan.

 

We started creating posters to promote saving of energy around school as this was one of our actions.

We decided Eco should water the flowers each week in the outdoor area to ensure their upkeep.

 

Mr Walsh also discussed the possibility of joining a local community garden group to help them further their gardening - we will try to organise this before the end of term.

June 17th

- Eco Review

 

Continued with the eco review - completed with action points.

 

We will give the healthy living section to 'Team Health' and get their point of view ready to complete!

We had great discussions on how we could make cardiff a more eco place...

 

We began drawing posters for a competition set by the Really Rubbish Show to design a better Cardiff for the future. Mr Morgan and Mr Walsh are looking forward to seeing the finished designs!

 

We also had the last of the delicious honey from the bee keepers - MMMM!

 

May 19th 2015

 

In attendance: Freya, Ruby, Isaac, Alisha and Mr Morgan.

 

- Eco Mural -

Due to be painted at half term! The designs have been finalised so fingers crossed for nice weather during half term!

 

- Eco Review

 

Continued with the waste section of the eco review - completed with action points.

 

- More recycling bins in communal areas (FP staff room).

- Food bin/s for the Foundation Phase classes left over snack.

- Write a letter to council regarding more bins placed around streets outside of school grounds.

- Yes and No recycling items list to be placed by each recycling bin.

We began writing letters to the council - to be enhanced if needed after half term.

 

Really Rubbish Show are paying us a visit on Friday...wonder what that's all about...?!

May 12th 2015

 

In attendance: Immy, Amir, Freya, Ruby, Isaac, Ellen, Mr Morgan and Mr Walsh.

 

- Eco Mural -

Our mural designs have been given to the artist and we await our designs to be finalised into one design soon..!

 

The PA are helping to paint the mural - we are aiming for it to be painted in May half term!

 

- Eco Review

 

We began the Radnor eco review - focussing on litter and waste this week - so far so good, some little tweaks but overall these areas were pleasing within the review!

 

We will continue other sections next week!

- Mr Walsh suggested the idea of unveiling the new Eco Wall during the first week back.

- We also discussed the possibility of having Eco club to run a stall which will sell spare school uniform donated to the school - we want people to reuse!!!

 

May 5th 2015

 

In attendance: Immy, Amir, Freya, Alisha, Ruby, Isaac, Ellen, Mr Morgan and Mr Walsh.

 

- Eco Mural -

We revisited our circle map of ideas of what is to go on the wall and again discussed the 9 different topics involved with 'Eco Schools' which could be included in the wall.

We continued to design wall features individually, in pairs and groups - thinking of ideas to include in the mural.

 

Eco Code

We needed to think of D sentence of eco code - which Ellen came up with!

So after many tweaks to the original we have now collectively agreed on a great Eco Code for Radnor Primary School!

 

Rethink our actions

Avoid wasting energy

Defend our wonderful world

Nurture Nature

Our voices will be heard

Reduce, reuse, recycle, repair!

 

We will aim to distribute these around the school ASAP!

 

Environmental Review

We had a great chat about beginning the eco review, which we will commence next week - this will give us a clear idea for our action plan!

- We began to design our own eco badges!

 

- We had an excellent discussion about the up and coming general election - thinking about politics from an eco standpoint. We felt that children and young people's voices weren't being heard enough so thought about ideas that we could maybe petition to develop in the future! Focusing perhaps on the transport of pupils to schools maybe?

 

Exciting times lay ahead for Eco club - watch this space!

 

April 28th 2015 - Our First After School Club!

 

In attendance: Immy, Amir, Freya, Elisha, Ruby, Isaac, Ellen, Mr Morgan and Mr Walsh.

 

- Eco Mural -

We created a circle map of ideas of what is to go on the wall.

We ate honey - left from last week's trip to St Davids.

Elisha had an idea of creating our own badges - We decided will make our own eco badges!

April 15th 2015

- Eco Mural - Some ideas were shared, but children would like more time to have a thinking session together to generate more ideas.

-Eco Club change of time?
We discussed the possibility of changing Eco Club to an after school club (weekly) which all pupils thought was a good idea, along with Mr Walsh and Mr Morgan. We voted so have spoken to Mrs James who agreed this would be a great idea to allow more time for project work and developing the school's 'eco-ness'!

 

-Trip to St David's Centre

Children informed of a trip to St David's 2 in Cardiff for a trip to do planting as part of the Pollen8 project. Children were given letters and are excited to go...stay tuned for pictures!

March 25th 2015

- Eco Code

We looked through the entries for the Eco Code competition and decided which one we felt deserved to win the Faitrade prize! The winner will be announced the week after Easter.

 

We also began to take our favourite parts from each of the entries to create our own Radnor Eco Code - our ideas are below...

- Fairtrade Poster

We voted on the fairtrade poster that best promoted Fairtrade to other pupils in the school. The winner will be announced the week after Easter.

- 'Eco Mural' -

We are planning to design and create an 'Eco-mural' in the school playground which will promote being 'Eco!'

 

If anyone has any ideas please let the Eco Club know!

February 25th 2015

- Eco Code - Discussed where we are with Eco Code entries (currently only 1).

Children to ask class for any further entries - Winner to be announced in last week of Spring Term.

 

- Fairtrade - Update on fairtrade fortnight.

Issac and Amir to give all teachers a letter about fairtrade lesson resources being available on server.
Teachers to put lesson evidence on 'Media Data'.

Tuesday 5th February 2015

Eco Code

Set challenge next Friday to create a Radnor Eco-Code. Present the challenge to school on 13th February Assembly, after Mr Morgan's class assembly.

Best one wins a Fairtrade hamper.

Eco- Club will vote for winner.

 

Fairtrade Fortnight

Lessons to be taught by teachers and a file arranged with resources.

Assembly for Foundation Phase and KS2.

Waitrose? Co-Op? Event?

Energy Saving Month

How are we getting on with with the tick list?

last week of term week beginig 15th December we will anoce the winning class which has not been leaving the projecter, the computer on,lights on and windows open will get a prize.We will give stickers to children who try and save energy.

 

Please look out for the ECO posters around the school and please share some of your energy saving knowledge on the Eco poster!

Wednesday 5th November 2014

General Eco Club Discussion

We could have our own room for meetings.

We will put up posters to let everybody know about energy saving month.

We will have a poster on the Eco board so pupils can say what they've learnt during Energy Saving Month.

We will have eco-monitors in each classroom to fill in a check list everyday.

We will check for lights on, projectors on, windows open or closed, computers on.

At the end of the month the best class could receive a certificate.

We will present the Energy Saving Month at Friday's Assembly.

Water Aid

Water Source link. We want to help them by sending money to them. 

Ideas: We could hold some events where the money goes to   Water Aid, we could get hold of a rowing machine and get money from parents who have a go on it.

 

Energy Saving Month

In November it is energy saving month. We hope to do an assembly on it and get people to save energy. We could get monitors to go round the classrooms and check energy.

Use Radnor rockets and website to promote energy saving month. Eco club to think of energy saving ideas for meeting first week back after half term.
